Congratulations to Our Scholarship Awardees!

June 22, 2022 by Carmen Hart

We are happy to announce that twelve St. Frances X. Cabrini School students have been awarded scholarships to assist with next year’s tuition.

6th grader Sophia Tellez was awarded the annual Sister John Martin Fixa, O.P. Scholarship, which honors the memory of Sister Johnnie, the beloved Dominican Sister of Mission San Jose who was dedicated to serving inner city schools as a teacher, administrator and fundraiser.  Sophia represents the commitment of SFXC’s principal, faculty and staff to the Dominican pillars of prayer, study, community and service, as well as the values of Mother Maria Pia Backes, foundress of the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose.  Sophia is dedicated to her studies, continually ranking as part of the top five in academic excellence. She is a member of the choir and takes joy in helping younger students with their classwork.

7th grader Genesis Hernandez was awarded the annual Sister Renilde Cade Memorial Scholarship. A teacher, principal and congregation leader, Sister Renilde left a legacy of generosity and affection.  Genesis is known at SFXC for being a remarkably mature and wise young woman who has insight and can find the good in any situation. She embodies many qualities of Sister Renilde, such as her searching mind and desire for learning. Genesis has a strong interest in science and is kind, humble, generous understanding.

A Donor Advised Fund at Catholic Community Foundation – Los Angeles has generously provided $15,000 in scholarship funds to ten 4th graders. This unique scholarship award is intended to follow a cohort of ten students from their 5th through 8th grade years. Students selected to the cohort will receive continued funding each year for the next four years!  Our scholarship recipients are:

  • Nathan Balladares
  • Brenda Cisneros
  • Katherine Flores
  • Leonardo Ibarra-Romo
  • Camila Morales
  • Angel Parrington
  • Sofia Peck
  • Haylee Rodriguez
  • Angelie Salcedo
  • Karen Villicana

It is through the commitment of our supporters that our school community grows stronger. By removing cost as a barrier, scholarships help more students receive an excellent Catholic education at SFXC.

Please join us as we congratulate these hard-working scholarship recipients!
